چکیده

Non-rigid image registration of chest CT images acquired at different breathing stages is often necessary in today’s medical practice. Current algorithms take little consideration of physical characteristics of the different tissues during the registration process. In earlier work, we have presented a registration framework based on the elastic transformation model that incorporated additional constraints to preserve topology and rigid structures. In this paper, we extend our previous registration framework to a viscous fluid model using the same constraints. A comparison between the fluid and elastic registrations, with and without the additional constraints, has been performed on 3D chest phantom data. The results show that the fluid registration model using additional constraints is even more successful in keeping the ribs and other bony structures rigid while reducing the amount of folding in the deformation field, thus leading to better preservation of topology.

بهبود سرعت "انطباق مبتنی بر روش برش گراف" جهت انطباق غیر صلب تصاویر تشدید مغناطیسی مغز

Image processing methods, which can visualize objects inside the human body, are of special interests. In clinical diagnosis using medical images, integration of useful data from separate images is often desired. The images have to be geometrically aligned for better observation. The procedure of mapping points from the reference image to corresponding points in the floating image is called Ima...

Compensation of brain shift during surgery using non-rigid registration of MR and ultrasound images

Background: Surgery and accurate removal of the brain tumor in the operating room and after opening the scalp is one of the major challenges for neurosurgeons due to the removal of skull pressure and displacement and deformation of the brain tissue. This displacement of the brain changes the location of the tumor relative to the MR image taken preoperatively. Methods: This study, which is done...

An Alternating-Constraints Algorithm for Volume-Preserving Non-rigid Registration of Contrast-Enhanced MR Breast Images

We propose and evaluate in this work a novel optimization strategy for intensity-based non-rigid image registration of contrastenhanced images with a volume-preservation constraint. Since patient motion correction and volume preservation are to some extent mutually exclusive goals, one is usually faced with a trade-off between volume preservation of contrast-enhancing structures and artifact re...

Retrospective evaluation of a topology preserving non-rigid registration method

This paper proposes a comprehensive evaluation of a monomodal B-spline-based non-rigid registration algorithm allowing topology preservation in 3-D. A topology preserving non-rigid registration algorithm with integration shape knowledge to segment brain subcortical structures from MRI images

A new non-rigid registration method combining image intensity and a priori shape knowledge of the objects in the image is proposed. This method, based on optical flow theory, uses a topology correction strategy to prevent topological changes of the deformed objects and the a priori shape knowledge to keep the object shapes during the deformation process. Advantages of the method over classical ...
